How does your kitchen affect the way you cook?
February 6th, 2010As a person who loves to cook, I would be interested in what others have to say about efficient cooking. By efficient I mean organization, such pots and pans, spices, and so forth in certain cabinets etc.
How does your kitchen affect the way you cook? What you do different if you could?

I have always cooked a lot and the size of my kitchen makes the most impact on how I cook. We relocated to another state and had to have a rental apartment with a tiny kitchen. What used to be gourmet meals with fresh ingredients turned into boxed meals and frozen foods. I know that it’s possible to cook gourmet in a tiny kitchen. However, when you have a family that requires six different kids of cereals, three kinds of sandwich cheese, whole, skim, and 2% milk, not to mention many other variations, there just isn’t room for the ingredients to cook. Also, we couldn’t keep all of the essentials we needed to make some of our meals. For example, I left my iron skillet in storage so our eggs weren’t good for a few months. Fast forward to now. We found a new home and we have plenty of room and cabinet space (not to mention a pantry) to spread out how we cook. On one side of the stove I have a baking section and on the other side, I have a chopping section. From there, I keep my glasses and plates out of the way and focus my main cabinetry on my pots, pans, spices, utensils so I can efficiently. More than anything, the size of the kitchen matters.
